Universiade

Superheroes are always about social responsibility.

Superheroes are always about love for our Homeland, the country we were born in, the one where we live and work.

Superheroes are always about good physical shape as a prerequisite of good health.

And, as we all know, health and time are the main assets in everyone’s life.

Superheroes are always about a strong spirit, will to achieve Victory, and pride for our Homeland.

"Universiade” is a combination of the words "University" and "olympiad."

This fact gives reason to claim that the Universiade is the second most important sports competition on the planet after the Olympics.

The history of Universiades dates back to 1905, when the inaugural student games were held in the USA.

The International University Sports Federation was established in 1949

In 1999, the European University Sports Association (EUSA) was created.

Since early 2000s, Ukraine has been represented in the International Student Sports Movement by the Sports Students Union of Ukraine (SSUU) nonprofit.

It so happened that the 2021 World Summer University Games in China’s Chengdu  were postponed to 2022 due to the raging pandemic, as were the European Summer University Games EUG 22  in Poland’s Lodz.

At 5:00 a.m. on February 24, 2022, the war slammed its way into the lives of everyone who identifies as Ukrainian.

From the very beginning, Kyiv became one of the main goals of the occupiers.

Martial law, curfew, air raid alerts, missile strikes, bombardments, the battle for Hostomel, occupation of Bucha and Irpin, enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups in Kyiv, blackouts, issues with water, food, and medicine supplies, internally displaced persons and refugees...

In fact, the list is endless.

Since the first days of the full-scale war, however, it’s become obvious that Ukraine and Ukrainians stand united and unbreakable.

Everyone has their own front line - their line of fight.

From early March 2022, the SSUU launched intensive consultations with the World and European Student Sports Associations at all levels.

Literally starting February 24, all international educational and student organizations and associations expressed support for Ukraine in its fight against the invaders.

In the first days of March 2022, both international governing organizations of university sports suspended membership of the aggressor power and its closest ally, handing Ukraine all quotas for all types of sports.

But how will the national and other teams of Ukraine’s Universities be able to set up a proper training routine and eventually travel to China and Poland to participate in the Games?

On the one hand, the European University Sports Association, led by General Director Adam Roczek, took the initiative to create a Fund to help the Ukrainian Union.

However, it immediately became clear that the Fund’s proceeds would not cover expenses in full.

In such a situation, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine personally decided to do everything in his power so that the national teams could take part in the Universiades.

The relevant executive bodies have been assigned a range of tasks to this end.

At the same time, it was obvious that without external help, organizing the process of preparation and the trip itself would be an extremely challenging endeavor.

Aware of the experience and reputation of Superheroes Agency, the SSUU leadership addressed the team with a request to consider providing assistance and support in preparing the Union and teams for the Universiade.

Without hesitation, Founders and Managing Partners of the Superheroes.Marketing Agency, Taras Horbul and Anatoliy Kompanichenko, decided that all required work will be done as quickly as possible and free of charge, as a gesture underlining Superheroes' social responsibility values.

In early April 2022, the Superheroes team kicked off preparatory work, and on May 4, 2022, a joint Superheroes and SSUU working group was created.

Two main tasks were formulated:

1.To develop sponsorship packages and launching negotiations with potential sponsors – Superheroes’ partners in Ukraine and beyond.

2.To develop identity and attempt to produce an original sport kit.

The first version of the pitch to potential sponsors was conceived just 5 days into the start of our work.

In the course of three weeks, six (!) variants of sponsorship packages were drafted.

In May 2022 alone, Superheroes ran more than 50 (!) rounds of negotiations to attract sponsors, with both Ukrainian and international businesses.

In parallel lines, certain political developments had a direct impact on our work as the Chinese government canceled the World University Games in Chengdu, while Poland’s authorities have decided to cover all expenses related to the stay of the National Team of Ukraine’s Universities at the EUG 2022 Eurogames in Lodz.

These decisions allowed Superheroes to optimize their work and focus on developing the identity and design of sport kits.
